SATCO builds 120 kW solar system in Hampton, AR
LITTLE ROCK, CAMDEN & HAMPTON, ARK.— OCTOBER 24, 2017 South Arkansas Telephone Company (SATCO) and Ouachita Electric Cooperative (OECC) have recently reached an agreement with Today’s Power, Inc. (TPI) to provide a 120-kW solar array.
In partnership with OECC, SATCO will become the first solar-powered telephone company. The 120-kW array installed at SATCO’s Hampton-based facility will feature 400 solar panels and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. TPI will provide both the equipment for the project, which will generate enough power for up to 16 homes annually.
SATCO’s 120 kW solar field helps to offset annual energy consumption, leading to lower operations costs and increased project revenues. Mark Lundy, Director at SATCO, says that “South Arkansas is an excellent market for the renewable projects. Collaborating with our local cooperative and Today’s Power has resulted in two companies that have been operating for over 75-years to come together to lead our community into the future. Furthermore, we are grateful for our relationship with Ouachita Electric Cooperative and our board for the support we need to continue to improve the quality of life in South Arkansas.”
